On December 4th ,Ms.hadley lead us to an excellent exhibition. The title of the exhibition is "Institute of Sculpture Art of Nanjing University".We can see lots of sculptures shown on the exhibition which were all made by one artist whose is Wu Weishan and this artwork is contemporary.
I saw many interesting sculptures in this exhibition made by the famous artist called Wu Weishan .Most of them were portrait .They were contemporary and fantastic though some of them made me feel very very strange because he is not simple to copy down the people but added his own views to create the statue which make his sculptures different from others.
Laozi must be the greast sculpture in this exhibition. It was also made by Wu Weishan in 2005. This sculpture was very tall about 3 meters high. This sculpture was made of metal and it was black .Laozo looks very old and there is a big hole in his stomach. The hole is full of strange words which were used long long times ago and of course we don't know the meaning of those words. His eyes are closed and one of his finger towards to the sky.
LaoZi was a famous person in the history who created Taoism and many people who believe in Taoism and who love his sprits admire him.
The artwork makes me feel strange,at first ,I don't know what it is telling us,but the teacher told us why the artist made it like this.Laozi looked very old because in China, wise people must have ugly appearance and they must be very old,so the artist created such an old man to show that Laozi's wisdom.
The artwork makes us think that we must be friendly towards others like Laozi and this artwork shows us that everything in the world begins with Taoism and we need to forgive others when they don't treat us very well.
I like this artwork ,because this artwork not only describes a very realistic LaoZi ,but also shows us the things LaoZi thought. For example ,LaoZi has big stomach. That shows he has much knowledge and he is very kind to others because acient China ,big stomach represents wisdom and kindness.I think other people may like this artwork because LaoZi is a famous person and many people like him just like me .This artwork lets us see the great sprit that LaoZi had.
